Author Description Lyall Harris Powers (1924–2018) was a professor of English at the University of Michigan, where he taught since 1958. He was granted emeritus status by the University's Regents during their October 1992 meeting.<br /><br />Dr. Powers published extensively while teaching and his criticism of North American literature won wide recognition, including the award of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1984. His major focus was Henry James, and he worked with his mentor Leon Edel on several projects.
